Fring

It use your mobile internet connection for instant messaging, Skype, MSN and Gtalk calls. Fring allows calls;
  • from mobile telephone to mobile telephone
  • from mobile telephone to pc
  • from mobiles to landlines

How much Fring VoIP costs

With Fring, you can open VoIP sessions with your mobile using:
  • A wi-fi connection
  • The GPRS/GSM/3G networks

In the first case (wi-fi), the VoIP calls don't involve additional costs of your operator as the connection used is the available wi-fi. In the case of a free hot-spot (Fon for example) it is completely free of charge.

It’s different if we use GPRS or 3G networks. In that case, we are bound to our telephone plan; therefore, it is better to check our rate plan before being smashed from the bill.

How to install Fring on mobile

Submit your telephone number and select your phone handset into the registration form. You will receive an SMS containing the download link of the java application. If you don't find your phone handset into the list, try to select the most similar one (anyway it have to be a Java enabled handset).

Install Fring, launch it and submit your Skype and Gmail account. That’s all!

This video shows how to make a free call from your mobile without the SIM and using a wifi connection (they are using the Symbian version):

Other solutions for VoIP mobile

Fring has good competitors. Other VoIP mobile applications you could test are ISkoot, Jajah Mobile and the great TruPhone.
