Calling free of charge? Now it is possible with Skype!
Calling with the pc
Whoever has been using internet for some years certainly remembers it: to stay connected meant on one side keeping the line busy, on the other burdening the phone bill with the delight of “navigating”.
For sure, the feeling of having a time bomb linked to the connection is nothing but agreeable, as much as the pleasure of loosing oneself among the fanciest pieces of information would be spoiled by the anxiety of a too high bill.
The appearance of ADSL (and specifically of flat rates) has meant to many the end of a nightmare, at least because connection costs were no longer in the right proportion to timing. How nice if the same could happen with telephony.
And here comes Skype!
To tell the truth, Skype has not invented anything new. VoIP (voice over IP) technology comes far before Skype’s triumphal entry in the telecommunication scene. Is it just a matter of good timing? Or, was the success of the initiative amplified by the spread of broadband?
The point is that, by simply installing software and connecting microphoned headphones to the pc, is now possible to call free of charge all over the world.
Please mind: costs are cleared only when the telephone link is between two pcs, even though rates of calls to standard devices are extremely cheap and, however, certainly lower than those offered by telephone providers.
An example? Calls to US are charged 0.017 € /min, to Japan 0.0192 € /min, to South Africa 0.71 € /min… is it clear enough?.. Then, don’t waste any time: download the software, install it on your pc and start calling your furthest friends… finally without the worry of a super-bill!
