Such areas as Business Process Re-engineering or Business Intelligence have been till now undisputed domain of informatics giants who dominate the situation through software like SAS or SPSS. With SpagoBI, open source bursts into a completely new area, opening up unforeseen prospects to company management.
What is Business Intelligence
The object of these knowledge systems is to provide for a basic need of today’s companies, forced to compete in a more and more hardened and packed market: to get in real time information useful for business and marketing decisions and strategies. SpagoBI is the first Business Intelligence platform to be open source and totally free. It has been released by Engineering Ingegneria Informatica and has a modular architecture whose main components are Java programmed. It can be installed on every Java compliant operating system, while clients log on to the platform through a common browser.It is possible to create custom procedures for login and data retrieval together with various report types. Data processing and retrieval procedures can be restrictive or structured in order to allow users to customize queries (and obviously chose the report layout for the presentation).
