.eu domains, the registration begins
On December the 7th, 2005 the Sunrise period officially starts off
Finally, after a few years wait, The European Registry of Internet Domain Names ordained the official date to start off. eu European Top Level Domains registration.
The official starting date was appointed on December the 7th, 2005 and it will at first consist in a 4 month period (from December 2005 to April 2006), the so-called Sunrise Period. At this stage, registration will not be open to everyone, but only to those entities who can boast priority rights on .eu domains to be registered.
At present, there is an extremely large amount of people who have pre-registered domains through Registars, but this does not guarantee name’s acquisition since more than one person /company may have pre-registered the same domain name. It will actually be a race against time. The 4 month Sunrise period will be structured as follows:
- December 7th –February 7th only those able to prove copyrights on the trademark or on the name they mean to acquire, will be allowed to register.
- February 7th - April 7th only those whose name is in some way linked to the chosen domain name (company names, not registered trademarks, literary or artistic names, etc), will be allowed to register.
From April 8th on, registration will be open to every person or company residing in Europe or having interests in our continent. Registars who collected the pre-registrations, will try to request before others registrations they are responsible of, according to Sunrise period procedures; but only one application will be dealt with: the first, formally correct, to arrive.
The others, even though they have paid the pre-registration, will have to renounce. For more detailed info, please refer to European Registry of Internet Domain Names official site at following url: http://www.eurid.eu/.
