Microsoft and Telecom Italy. An agreement for VoIP?

Persistent rumors on a possible agreement between the company from Redmond and Telecom in relation to the new VoIp frontier are spreading. The gossip has been reported by the daily paper “Finanza e Mercati”, who even hazards a possible formal agreement at next SMAU 05 in Milan. The arrangement would concern a phone VoIp service to be offered by the MSN portal.

Even though these are only suppositions, if one also takes into account the recent rumors of a pact between Microsoft and Yahoo! to merge their respective messengers’ user community, it seems quite likely that Microsoft’s intention is to break off Skype’s monopoly on VoIp.
